05012   The Iconostasis with this Deisis at its center is located in the side chapel of the Archangels' Cathedral in Moscow. It does not serve its original purpose, but is placed there more as a museum piece. Information on where the iconostasis comes from is not available at this time. It may have come from one of the destroyed churches in the Moscow Kremlin or elsewhere.
             The word 'Deisis' comes from a Greek word meaning 'prayer' or 'intercession'. In iconographic language it represents a group of three persons: Christ, seated in majesty in the center, with his Mother to his right and John the Forerunner to his left.
