About Ann Chapin, Iconographer

I was first exposed to icons in 2001. They were new to me, and came to have a powerful impact on my spiritual journey. For the previous 15 years I had been painting in oils, and had basic skills in color mixing and technique for that medium. After some classes offered by the Prosopon School, I felt drawn to iconography both as a way to paint and as a way to carry on an important tradition within the Church.

My recent works can be seen at the Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville, Virginia. Many are up to 10 feet (3 m) tall, so the themes can be seen well by the entire congregation.

For further information, or commissions, please send me an email.

Thank you for visiting,

The Annunciation

The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. (Luke 1, 26-31)
