The Great Panaghia
of Yaroslavl

Yaroslavl

The northern bear of Russia was founded by Yaroslav the Wise in the 11th century and developed an unusual decorative brick and glazed tile design found on several surviving churches in the city. The Icon Museum collection, the imposing Church of St. Elijah the Prophet with its own superbly surviving 17th century frescoes and great acoustics, the large riverside park hosting the controversial bronze statue of the Holy Triniity, the physically beautiful population of Yaroslavl and its perfect blend of old and new make the city a frequent tour stop.
