Rostov Velikii
The approach to Rostov is a fairy-tale panorama of towers and domes in the Kremlin complex hugging the shores of Lake Nero. Many icons of the Rostov-Suzdal school reside in the Kremlin museum and many surviving 16th and 17th century frescoes grace the walls of the churches and galleries.

Pereslavl - Zalessky
This picturesque lakeside village is the home of the beloved Russian saint Duke Alexander Nevsky and is the site of the founding of Russia's first naval fleet. One of the oldest stone churches in northwest Russia and a fine icon collection in the Goritsky Monastery museum make this an important stop on any tour.
