All Iconophiles From: Fr. Ilya Gotlinsky Subject:
Unique Russian Icon
Tour
Dear Friends,
In this letter I would
like to extend an invitation to all of you to jointly
explore the Holy and magnificently
beautiful world of the Russian Icon. Born in
Russia myself, and being greatly interested in Sacred Art,
I have prepared a new trip that I expect to bring us much
happiness and excitement. I qualify this trip as unique
because to the best of my knowledge this kind of journey
has never taken place before.
The journey will
satisfy the
most inquisitive artistic interests and
open the
eyes of those who just begin to explore the
Beauty of Heavens Glory
so vividly and stunningly
portrayed by earthly beings. Over the course of three
full weeks in the summer of next year, our educational
tour-pilgrimage will take us to many collections, monuments
and workshops the best of the best that there is
to see in Russia. This will convey to you the history,
development and present day work of Russian iconographers.
In search of beauty we
will see the world famous collections of Russian capitals,
but we are not only stopping there.
Our journey will
also take us to some remote locations that are hardly ever
mentioned in tourist books.
Im sure that those
of you who have never visited Russia before will be
overwhelmed by the splendid beauty of both Art and Nature
in the places we will be visiting. I am equally sure that
those of you who already have seen the most important
places of Russia in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and
Russias Golden Ring, will be more than
pleased to be able to satisfy their curiosity by
seeing
architectural monuments with ancient frescoes in
Zvenigorod, Ferapontovo, Belozersk, Staraya Ladoga and many
more places in the vicinity of Novgorod and Pskov, as well
as the splendid icon collections in the musea of Rostov,
Vologda, Kirillov and Cherepovets...
Well, I have said enough.
I feel like going there myself right now. Yet the journey
will not take place until next summer. Please let us
establish contact early on, so we can be well prepared for
this journey.
Visit the Tour Pages and then come
back again to see any new additions. Write or call with
your questions. Well be happy to talk to you
and answer them! But remember that words are never enough.
So, please come and see
May God bless you all! Cordially,
Fr. Ilya Gotlinsky
