| NOTES Three icons were found in 1918 in a barn nearby the Church of the Dormition of Zvenigorod (decorated by Andrei Rublev and Daniel Chorny). All three were part of a Deisis. This icon of the Saviour is one of them, it is certain that it has been painted by Andrei Rublev. For Henri Nouwen* the facial expression of this particular icon became a profound spiritual experience : the Saviour does not look severe, he doesn't judge, but sees everything. _____________ * Henri Nouwen, in "Behold the Beauty of the Lord" Top of Page |
