| 00047 The Holy Trinity. Andrei Rublev, 15th century (1411). Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow. (Notes) |

|
| In the Orthodox Church, the Holy
Spirit is adored on Pentecost Sunday. The icon of the Holy Trinity is the icon
of Pentecost. In his famous icon, (Saint) Andrei Rublev was inspired by the
meeting of Abraham and Sarah with the three visitors
(Genesis 18: 1-15). Here are some excellent further references : (1) Holy Trinity (Alexander Boguslawski) >> a most interesting description of the background history of the Holy Trinity icon, a "must-read" (2) Introduction à l'icône de la Trinité - Pages Orthodoxes La Transfiguration (Paul Ladouceur) >> very interesting in a different way (3) Holy Trinity - Come and See Icons |
