!!  The Home Page is the NAVIGATION CENTER of this Website. Whereas website content & structure is being presented in the Summary, it is on this Home Page that you will find the page links all conveniently together : in the texts on the screen you are facing, in the Tabular Menu above, and in the SiteMap or Tree Menu further down.     Read more...
Top of Page SiteMap Navigation Tutorial
!!  Generally speaking, the Sitemap is the best tool to use when you are looking for a specific subject on the website, but you don't know where to go to access it. Use it in conjunction with Internet Explorer's (or other browser's) Find utility. Suppose you want to know more about a Russian Icon Tour. On the SiteMap page, click Ctrl-F (or in IE browser click Edit, then "Find on this page"). Now enter "Russian Icon Tour" in the search box, en click "Find Next". Click again till you find it.

!!  If what you are looking for is not in the Menu or SiteMap, try using (Google) SiteSearch. Any image, or subject can be found quickly and easily (provided it's there), using 2 simple steps.

!!  The (6-tab) pull-down menu you see on this page can be found on several other major pages. The pages that don't have this menu, have a simple (1-tab) drop-down menu with less choices but still very effective.

!!  Almost all text on this page is linked : on the top screen and in the Pull-down Menu above, (at the start of this page), and in the SiteMap -TreeMenu further down.

!!  There is much to see and read on this site. If you have not previously had a serious look at icons, but are inspired to do so now, it is a good thing to start off by looking at an icon while also allowing the person in the icon to look at you.

If this is your first visit, then click one of the next links to see some icons:
- Icons of Christ  |  Icons of the Mother of God  |  Feast Day Icons  |  Special Icons
When you have finished, simply close the window, and you will be back on this page.

Following it you can read one or more introductory pages:
- What are byzantine icons?  |  Summary  |  Introduction: The Essential Feature of Icons
- Understanding Icons  |  Veneration of the Holy Virgin

Enjoy your visit !

!!   ABOUT  THE  TWO  NEW  MENUS
(1) The Pull-down Menu. The Pull-down Menu at the top of the page has 6 tabs. When moving your mouse over one of the tabs the submenus become visible. Using the Pull-down Menu you can access the same pages as when using the SiteMap -TreeMenu. Links can be left clicked only ; this is not a problem because the menu (re)loads in less than 1 sec. Thus the advantage of the Pull-down Menu is that it is fast and convenient as it takes little space.
(2) The SiteMap -TreeMenu. The SiteMap -TreeMenu provides a detailed overview of all* of this site's web pages. Together with the Pull-down Menu and Summary Page, it helps making clear what you can expect to find on this site and where to go. The menu stays permanently open (expanded). With the additional navigation links, this type of SiteMap or TreeMenu is very convenient.
(3) For convenience purposes, some pages are shown more than once, in both menus. This is not an error.
(4) The many links, placed on the various pages of this site, will facilitate navigating between these pages, and between sections of a single but very large page. It is recommended to use these links as scrolling may cause confusion.
-------------------------
  * Not included are pages with large icon images as these are treated as images and not as web pages.
